Restoration of the monastery Davidovica

Davidovica Monastery was built in 1281. near Brodarevo, Prijepolje. Founder of the monastery Dimitrije David, son of Vukan and grandson of Stefan Nemanja. The monastery was damaged when the Turks for the first time in the late fifteenth century occupied territory of Polimlje. The monastery is preserved tombstones "use Vratka God", whom we know for sure is the grandson of Dimitrije David, in folk songs known as Jug Bogdan, father of Princess Milica, which is thought to be born near the monastery Davidovica. According to legend, it is said to have been buried in Davidovica brothers Jugovici, after suffering in the Battle of Kosovo. After the demolition and burning, the monastery was never rebuilt, except that at the end of the 50s of XX century Institute for the Protection and Scientific Research of Cultural Monuments of NR Serbia clarified the ruins of the church and conserved the existing walls.




With the permission of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia in 1996. the museum in Prijepolje started the reconstruction and restoration of the monastery Davidovic, which was completed in 1998.

The whole project of reconstruction and restoration of the monastery Davidovic, was financed by the Ministarstsvo Culture of the Republic of Serbia.

The reconstruction is performed by a competent project of the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments in Kraljevo and under the supervision of architect Veljko Vuckovic.

The project of reconstruction and restoration of the monastery Davidovica, initiated and led him throughout the entire reconstruction and rehabilitation, Slavoljub Pušica, director of the Museum in Prijepolje.
